IM Prologue

In the photo there is a man sitting in a room with thousands of lights shining. The room is very bright and messy. There are things all around the room with a couple chairs and no windows. Both the walls and the ceiling are covered fully with lights with most on and very bright. Just like in the prologue the man has many wires leading into the basement that are visible when looking at it. The image kind of represents the man's life showing that it is a mess and that he isn't sure of himself. He believes he is invisible so to make up for it he makes the room very bright so that he will be able to be seen.

IR Blog Post1- NewYorkTimes.com

http://www.wtvy.com/weather/headlines/36970994.html

1) The article shows that the average scores for 12th graders in Reading and Math have improved since reaching a historic record low in 2005. Federal test were given to students around the nation to see how they would score in reading and math. The test was given the past couple of years and results show that scores were getting better and better over the years.

2) For the reading assessment the score was based out of 500 points with the average score of 12th graders being 288 jumping up 2 points from 2005. This led to around 38 percent of the kids taking the test to score in or above the proficiency level. The results of this test show that 20 years ago scores were a lot higher but since reaching record lows have shown better results.

3) Many believe that geographic background effect the results. Since 2005 Asians have gotten their scores from 287 up to 298. While whites boosted theirs up from 293 to 296 in the past couple years. Hispanics have raised scores up to 274 around 2 points better then before, and blacks were able to move from 267 to 269 showing things are getting better.

A) What is being done to help the students improve their scores?

B) Do these results have any impact on how business leaders look toward future employees?

http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2010/11/states-12th-graders.html

The article shows that even though test scores are still low, they are better than before. Many states are showing that things are getting better but yet scores remain low. Even with things getting better why are they so low. Many schools try to include things in the cirliculum that will help bring scores up even higher but none have shown any drastic improvements. As long as scores remain low nothing so far can help bring 12th graders to have better results which may affect futures. As the business world is seeking better educated employees, Americans need to improve or else things can become a lot more stressful for finding jobs unless drastic improvement occurs.

IR Blog Post1- News.yahoo.com

http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20101117/sc_yblog_thelookout/poll-most-republicans-dont-believe-in-climate-change

1) Recent polls have shown that Republicans have been recently changing their view on global warming as results show from 2006, 62 percent of the House believe that global warming exist and is the major cause of what is happening to the Earth. Now that number has been reduced down to 53 percent as the Democrats still have around 80 percent of their members still belive in global warming.

2) Scientist say that global warming is very harmful and that it is being caused by human made creations. These include the car, factories, and other carbon-dioxide releasing inventions. The carbon dioxide is causing a rise in the temperature due to a thining of the ozone layer and other reasons.

3) Many people are split on the idea of global warming with many saying that it is just something that the Earth has naturally been doing for billions of years and that climate change is natural. Many groups have been created to help fight global warming with not many of them knowing exactly what is causing "global warming".

A) If global warming really exist then why have countries continued to allow production of cars, factories, and other carbon releasing items to continue to be made?

B) Other then temperature change what exactly is the result of "global warming" and how does it have a negative effect on humans and the environment?

http://www.wtvy.com/weather/headlines/36970994.html

As many people believe that global warming is being cause due to humans many skeptics think that what is occuring is normal for the Earth. Chris Booker says that results show the Earth was hotter 1,000 years ago than it is now. He also mentions that temperatures are in fact dropping more than they are rising and that nothing has showed record levels of change. I think that global warming is just a myth and that people are trying to find an excuse for certain things. There is no real proof other then so called temperature changes that show any significant results that can prove global warming exist and for that I think that there is no such thing and it is just natural what is happening.

IM Introduction, Ellison Bio, Ubd Post

Ralph Ellison was born in Oklahoma which on a map of the United States is located in the South. He was being raised in a time of racism and separation. When he began his writing and education it was in a time of a terrible economic downfall. He attended the Tuskegee Institute on a scholarship which allowed him to get an education without spending a penny. He tried to capture the nature of humans in his writing not to focus only on racism in which him being black many people thought he was trying to write about.

The idea for Invisible Man started from when he was recovering from being sick and wrote down the sentence "I am an invisible man." Over the next couple of years he soon was able to bring in more and more ideas to help go with his story and eventually developed it into a novel.

As many people thought Ellison was trying to write about, none really understood his aim. He wasn't trying to cause a stir by bringing up racism and other means of discrimination, but how they impacted African Americans. He wanted to show how human nature shows us to be judgmental, and classify people into different categories. He writes with a powerful tone in which his word use and structure show meaning behind what he is trying to say.

IR Blog Post1- Foxsports.com

The article I read was:  http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Players-want-more-say-in-discipline-for-hits-111110

1) Many top name players are being fined thousands of dollars for hits that were deemed as illegal or "unsportsmanlike". In response to these fines, players have tried to battle the league and its top officials saying that many of the fines are unjust and that they are just playing football.

2) For fear of players ending careers and possibly futures, commissioner Roger Goodell and a team of other football experts are analyzing plays in which most injuries result in concussions as either legal or fineable hits. If they feel that the hit was intentional they will decide how much the player should be fine and even could result in suspension for future games.

3) A lot of veteran players feel that the players should get more of a say on how the penalties for hits ruled "unsportsmanlike" are going to be handled. They know they get millions of dollars but if they are going to keep getting fined eventually it will add up and many will lose a good amount of money.

A) Why did they instate a fine for hits, they never had one before and the amount of concussions were not as high why was it put into effect?

B) With safety as an issue why doesn't the league instead of penalizing players for hits resulting in injuries, improve the type of equipment the players are using to a better model that can help reduce injury?

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/new-headshot-punishment-leaves-defenders-defenseless-jason-whitlock-102010

I think that by making a fine for certain hits makes defensive players more cautious about how aggressive they can be. Football is a game of aggression and the best defensive players are the ones who will hit the wide reciever that goes up for the ball, or hits the receiver as he gets the ball. Now to avoid chances of players getting "unsportsmanlike" hits defensive cordinators have to change up game plans in order to avoid any plays that could result in fines. As more and more rules are being put in to help out the safety of players, the less and less "football" is staying as football. Rule after rule is being put in to help make sure that everybody on the field is equally protected and that the numebr of injuries reduces. The best option is to suspend players that intentionally hit a player to hurt him. If a hit like that of Austin Collie in which he was hit into another player that resulted in Collie getting a concussion should be reviewed and if evidence proves that it was unintentional then no action should be done. The game is becoming less and less like the way it was meant to be played and if Goodell keeps up with the fines the sport of football will lose many fans.

Theme #2 Reflection

1) I did an alright job in which I could have done a lot better on had I focused a little more on getting help on some things I had trouble with. I did deserve the grade I got because of how many opportunities I was presented with but did fail to act upon them. Since I didn't know Nick personally I wasn't able to get everything how I wanted but I tried to put info that would be very true in Nick's case.

2) I am not very good at doing the resumes and cover letters being that I never really have to use them so I think by practicing more and more with them I will get a better understanding of what a great cover letter and resume would look like.

3) I can improve in a lot of areas and I will take what was written on my paper and try to apply it to the next time I have an assignment like this. I will try and do more and more drafts of the themes I do to make sure that when I do hand it in it will be as good as it can.

Theme #1 Reflection

1) On theme #1 I did a good job I just handed it in late. I feel  I deserve the grade I got because of me turning it late but had it been on time I would definitely be fine with the score I got. I took the revisions and actually used them in my paper. I saw things that I had messed up on and realized why they did not work out how they were supposed and I helped use them to do better on the new copy.

2) Now that I was given a chance to take what the theme reader and Mr. Gabriele wrote down for me to do I can get a better view of what is needed to make a paper 100% worthy. I need to focus on tying my paper together from beginning to end.

3) Next time I will make sure it not only gets handed in on time but that I check over it and reread it multiple times to make sure that everything flows. It was a hard topic to write about since it was someone I lost but next time I will have a couple read it and edit it before I hand it in.

The Greatb Gatsby Final Project

1. thegreatgatsby.spruz.com

2. Fun is fun, but too much is none; living the good life means finding the proper balance between work and play.

3. We were trying to show how our thesis applied to the lives of the characters and 1920's. Just like in the story and in the 1920's both were about having fun and living the good life. The problem with that is that they had too much fun and in the story 3 out 6 main characters die from having too much fun. In the 1920's the Great Depression affected many lives by people relying on their riches and had too much fun.
